It’s a service that many use to see how well their neighbors are really doing. Do they owe on their home and if so, how much? have they refinanced lately and do they own more than the home is worth? The list goes on and it’s all free, no registration requirements and all from the privacy of your home.

When you visit the site, you’ll log in with the Login Name and Password they provide you for public access (middle of page). It’s a public service and available to everyone. You’ll be amazed at the type of data that is readily available just for the clicking.

For example, say you wanted to know about Jon Doe. Simply type in Doe, Jon, set the records per page to 100 and click Query.
You’ll receive a listing of all the Mortgage, Warranty, Quick Claim and Discharged deeds known for Jon.
For example, you might find that Jon recently refinanced his home and now owes more than it’s worth – or – that it’s paid off and his story about the bank threatening to take his home is all made up.
Personally, I don’t appreciate this information being made available and I really don’t think it’s anyone’s business how much you owe on a mortgage. The only thing I can do is raise awareness and hope that someone with a lot of influence can make a change.
This recently happened when an executive of a popular search engine had their private information displayed for the world to see – Google Maps Street View caught more than it should have and was blogged about – change happened pretty fast at that point ;)
