My mother always told me that the white lines on my fingernail is a sign that I have told a white lie. That just couldn’t be true because I have about 10 lines and I’ve only told 5 in the last three months : )
I had to know, so after careful research, I found a page that not only explained what I had, which by the way is Leukonychia, but shows pictures of nail conditions and then explains what is going on with your body based on the picture.
In my case, Leukonychia is a condition where white lines appear on some fingernails in random spots and not considered important. They are brought on by trauma to the fingernail, such as banging it against an object. The time of trauma is hard to pin down because it can take weeks for the white line to appear.
You should be aware that a lack of zinc can cause similar nail problems, but, too much zinc can weaken the immune system, so make sure to read this page on pollen allergies which covers zinc.
Only in the medical industry would they classify blunt trauma to the fingernail as a condition – I guess there is a condition for everything : )
