Rice and Spice of Holland

Rice and Spice - Thai Us and You Won’t Wanna Thai Another!

We received notice today from Sharon that she’ll be opening a new Thai restaurant in Holland on the 24th of June and being the Thai lover I am, I’ll be sure to check them out during their grand opening week!

Rice & Spice is the collaborative effort between chefs Nalee Manosack, Melissa “Nang” khousakoun, and Darric “Xay” Manosack with the goal of setting the local standard of excellence in Thai Cuisine.

Rice and Spice promises to serve traditional Thai and Chinese cuisine with exotic spices that will trigger even the most unresponsive taste buds.

We visited Rice and Spice Saturday and were surprised at the service and food. The cook can make or break a restaurant and the cook at this restaurant was what every food critic hopes to find, a seasoned expert in Thai cuisine. I love spicy and the dish I had ordered was exactly what I had hoped for. The cook must have seen me wiping the moisture from my forehead and was concerned that she had made the dish too spicy – I reassured her that it was perfect and that I appreciated the concern.

Both the cook and waitress had no idea that we were there to critique their restaurant, yet we were treated better than most high-end restaurants! The waitress asked us about our likes and suggested food based on that information.

We started with the Thai It Sampler which included Pinky Blanket, Egg Rolls, Rangoon and Satay. It was difficult to pick the best, but found the Pinky Blanket stood out and Rangoon toped the list with Cindy. I should mention that the Satay with peanut sauce was strong second!

I chose Thai Tea, a drink made from strongly brewed powdered black tea and spices and sweetened with sugar, condensed milk and served chilled. The evaporated milk is poured over the tea and ice just before serving.

Cindy selected the Coconut Juice which had large slices of real coconut – much different then my Thai Tea :)

I ordered Panang beef (dry curry with beef) for the main course, a very spicy dish. If you like spicy food but do not enjoy sweating, then order the Panang Beef medium (but you’ll be missing out!)

Cindy ordered the Phad King Sot and substituted shrimp for the beef.

Both dishes were excellent and more food then we could eat. The food was fresh and service was top notch! If you are love Thai food or would live to excite your palate, then visit this authentic Thai restaurant and experience it for yourself.

Once you Thai them, you won’t need to Thai another!
