Recovery Act reporting

I received this spam today and decided to take the time and do a little research. The spam is from the site FedArra.com is focused on ARRA Stimulus Reporting and claims:

“Fedarra specializes in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) report preparation. A member of our Concierge Team takes care of the work for you from start to finish, eliminating the significant time commitment, problems and frustration that come with reporting on your own.”

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 requires significant reporting by both Government and industry.

Contractors are required to submit reports for all work funded in whole or in part by the Recovery Act. The reporting can be very complex depending on the amount of income derived from ARRA and entrepreneurs see a niche in taking on the burden of meeting those requirements for businesses.

The spam came from John Cimral with an email address of Concierge@fedarra.com. I’m guessing that FedArra hired some mass mailing company to announce its service and I was on the list. A copy of the unsolicited email is included below:

The holidays will make Recovery Act reporting challenging

Dear Award Recipient,

December is here and the next Recovery Act reporting period is fast approaching starting January 1. The holiday season brings special challenges to the reporting effort:

1. Vacations will happen just prior to and during the reporting period
2. New Year’s Day and weekends will reduce the reporting period to only five business days
3. You likely have other pressing year-end priorities

Fedarra can help you overcome these obstacles by completing your Recovery Act report for you from start to finish, reducing your involvement to an hour instead of days or weeks. We eliminate the frustration and problems that were commonplace during the first reporting period and provide peace-of-mind when you want it most. Learn more about our services here, or view and print our services document.

Fedarra’s reporting service is affordably priced at $599 per award. Through December 18th, we are reducing the price by $30. Call us at (877) 281-2772 x703 to get started with a dedicated member of the Fedarra Concierge Team.

Our expertise comes from assisting hundreds of organizations in October with their Recovery Act reporting and submitting 100% of their reports on time. Our success comes from a true commitment to our clients’ satisfaction. See what they have to say. We take pride in our work and guarantee our results. We welcome the opportunity to assist you.

Kind regards,

Well John, American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Reporting is a great idea and almost zero competition, what a great niche! I am sure you’ll do well once you stop spamming people. I never asked to be contacted by you and receiving an email stating I’m on a list and have to visit your site to unsubscribe or face more spam is irritating!

You have a quote on your site that states:
“This is such a headache. It is just not worth it for us to do it ourselves.”

I see that you applied that thinking to building contacts as well?

This morning I received a message from FIFA Promotions saying that I have won some award and I should claim it. What I would like to know from Fifa Promo is this prize legitimate because they asked me to buy 5 MTN air time and give it to them on the number that they have given me. I have already given them my account details as they have requested them to release the prize. Please assure me if this is legitimate or not before I go and buy R180 arie time.
    Thank you!

    Dear Award Recipient,

I am sending this message to make you aware that the Federal Reporting website posted an extension for this reporting period. The new deadline is midnight EST on January 14, 2011. If you’ve submitted your Recovery Act (Section 1512) report already, congratulations! You should have received an email from the Federal Reporting system confirming your successful submission.

If like many recipients you have not had time or had difficulty submitting your report, be sure to take advantage of the new deadline. There will be much closer data scrutiny during this reporting period, especially if you are closing out your award. If you rushed the completion of your report to meet prior submission deadlines, were not familiar with this period’s new reporting guidance, or did not provide consistent data between your Federal Section 1512 report and related Agency-specific reports, use the extension to review your report’s accuracy.

As always, we are available to complete your report(s) for you. Our business has submitted thousands of reports for our clients at an affordable price. We can also complete your Agency-specific reports, such as the HUD RAMPS and Section 3, DOJ COPS, DOJ JAG, and DOE EECBG reports. Please contact us at 877-281-2772 x706 to learn more about our service, or visit the Fedarra website.

    Sincerely,
    John Cimral
