Oil Absorbents
I received this email which I thought was odd as I don’t need oil absorbents, but thought the concept was pretty cool!

Hi Folks!
My name is [snip], and I live in Groton, VT. I am proud to be associated with M.O.P. Environmental Solutions, a manufacturing company located in Bath, NH. We make an exciting new patented product called M.O.P., which stands for Maximum Oil Pick-up.
I’m thinking of you because it would be an indispensable product for you to have on hand for clean-up of any oil spills. M.O.P. is made entirely from recycled materials which would have otherwise ended up in landfills. It picks up thirty times its own weight in oil, diesel fuel, or any other petroleum product, works on land or water, and does not absorb water.
It is many times more efficient and much less expensive than any other product on the market. Also, the factory in which it is produced is powered entirely by a hydro-electric generator.
Another amazing thing about M.O.P. is that up to 95% of the absorbed oil can be extracted by pressing, and the remaining substance made into pellet fuel, thereby creating no waste and using 100% of the available energy. Also, M.O.P. is recognized and approved by the E.P.A., and is completely non-toxic.
You can find more information on the website at [snip]. If you are interested, I could send you a free sample. I hope you will see how M.O.P. can be a considerable advantage for you. Thanks!
Sincerely,
[snip]

I looked into oil absorbents a bit and found that a 20 LB bag of MOP 201 runs about $32 and will absorb up to 75 gallons of oil or 600 lbs per bag.
The 20lb Bag of MOP 201 plain brown is unique blend optimized for use on water to remove every trace of oil from the surface of water. The aggressive holding action will not allow MOP to release oil to the environment and works effectively on land as well with excellent results.
Oil absorbents are a hot topic and most of the sites offering them sell absorbents made of pure meltblown polypropylene fibers, which absorb up to 25 times their weight. We have a variety of pads and rolls which are designed to absorb all liquids, or strictly oil based liquids. Biodegradable pads are also available for environmentally safe cleaning operations.
One thing you should look for in an absorbent is a product that is virtually dust free!
