Microsoft AOL Sweepstakes
Here is a great example of email fraud! In this Microsoft AOL Sweepstakes scam, the representative from Microsoft claims to have selected you as the winner in their sweepstakes.
Notice how the representative from Microsoft uses an email address from Yahoo in the UK! Ya, right – the email itself speaks loudly that it’s a scam, but the email address of the Microsoft AOL Sweepstakes representative takes the cake!

Figures, they will do anything for power. I am a single parent who raised 3 children, along with a disabled daughter and mother whom I still take care of. I fell for this as did so many others. I sent out over 1,800 e-mails and for all my valuable time got a big fat 0. Hmm… wonder what they get? AOL keep your money, scams and shove it up your corporate ladder of lies.

Hi!!
I was just wondering about an e-mail I recently recieved claiming that I was a winner in the Microsoft Internet Lottery Promotion that was held for their 2007 Anniversary. It said that I had won 1,250,000 british pounds. All I had to do was send in my full name, address, occupation, cell#, nationality, refrence # given in the e-mail for the winning ticket, and payment option. I was to send this info to a MR RICHARD BOLTA.
I don’t know if its a scam or not. Does anyone know? I’d really appreciate some feedback so that I don’t get into anything unnecessarily problematic.
Thanks a bunch!!

I just received an e-mail with a award winning notice of 2.000.000 GBP. I’m finding hard to believe and don´t want to be involved in a scam. This happened on the six´th of december 2007 in Brockley, London United Kingdom. Can you confirm this.
December 18th, 2007 at 9:57 pm
the moment I saw that the senders email address was not from an official domain…i discounted the whole issue and likened it to scams. Just ignore them..
December 19th, 2007 at 8:56 pm
i also received such mail. can’t anyone take steps for such hoxes?
December 31st, 2007 at 5:40 am
Hi,
THIS IS A HOAX. Even I have received a similar email. The senders email ID is not from any official domain of either Microsoft or AOL.
There is no point breaking our heads over this.
Its very obvious that someone has our email IDs but not our names, so these guys our asking for our Full Names in the reponse. Then such database is used for mass marketing and spamming our Inboxes…
So please DO NOT GIVE ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION…….
January 8th, 2008 at 1:42 pm
Just received notice very much the same as above informing me I had won £75,000.00 this has now been reported to Trading Standards.
January 10th, 2008 at 6:33 am
I also receive the same message as cEsS_16, exactly similar one on 7th,January,2008. When i read it, i knew that’s fake but i was very curious about it => i wanna find the truth and see what u guys are saying. Luckily, i haven’t send my information to that guy. Thanx so much.
I think we can find that is all faulse because they said in the message that i , winner, am is one of 10 other ones. But if u want to check it true or faulse, u ‘ll easily find out there’re so many people who got that prize from them => it’s all faulse
That’s what i think. So sad to think it’s fake but we must believe that nobody gives u anything free except your family.
