Free Clip Art

It’s been said that a picture is worth a thousand words. So what better way to deliver the message in your greeting cards, invitations and other special announcements than by including free clip art. Even if you’ve not had a need for clip art in the past, the day will come when you’ll want to add an image to a document.

One thing that people don’t realize about using images is that many have copyright protection. Copyrighted images are the property of another person or entity. To use a copyrighted image, you need permission and you usually need to pay to use it. That’s why many people choose free clip art instead.

Free Clip Art, where?

Where can you download free clip art? It’s all over the Internet! Simply search on “free clip art” and you’ll get pages of websites offering free clip art.

For example, www.barrysclipart.com has thousands of hand-drawn, colorful free clip art images. The clip art is separated into forty-six categories. The site does have a search feature, but you’re better off drilling down by the category links. Typing in the word cat located two clip art images, but typing in the words, nurse, July 4th and Fourth of July retuned no matches.

discovery.com is perfect if you have school-aged children or you need educational images. The free clip art on this site is a combination of color and black and white hand drawn images sorted into 19 different categories. Free downloads are limited to ten images which must be used in documents that do not generate revenue. Otherwise this clip art is no longer “free”.

webplaces.com provides links to clip art that truly are free. No annoying pop-ups and no redirects - just categories of free clip art. This is a hit-or-miss site meaning it may not include the category you’re interested in and unfortunately, some of the links are broken. But it’s worth taking a look at.

clipartconnection.com makes available 1000’s of free clip art images. The site is a bit busy with lots of banner advertising around the borders. It’s easy to click on the wrong link and get redirected to another site, but as long as you pay attention to what you’re clicking on, you’ll be all set. Click on the ClipArt link at the top of the page and you’ll find plenty of free clip art categories. The images are hand-drawn and are a combination of black and white and color images.

Kidsdomain.com has a nice collection of free clip art. There are five categories of clip art: holiday, sports, animal, seasonal and miscellaneous. The web site is easy to maneuver. If you’re looking for one of the above categories of clip art, you’re sure to find the perfect hand-drawn, colored image here.

Another free clip art site is www.ClipArtCastle.com. This site lists free clip art as well as fonts, photos, web graphics and animation. The only annoying thing about this site is that it makes you register first. Entering fake information gets by this and you easily proceed from there. The site also includes a page of links to other interesting news articles that in some way all relate to art.

And there you have it - a few places to go on the Internet to find useful and free clip art for your next project!
