Death of Megan Meier
Death of Megan Meier
Lori Drew is her name and she is charged with bullying a teenager to the point that the teen committed suicide. Claims are that Drew joined myspace with the sole purpose of creating a fake profile to mentally attack 13 year old Megan Meier.
Lori Drew of O’Fallon, Missouri, used myspace to create a fictitious teenage boy named Josh Evans. Megan, who was concerned about her weight, was excited to met this new supportive friend and added Evans to her list of myspace buddies.
Although Evans and Megan never met in person, they became fast friends. Then, when it was most devastating, Josh Evans became a weapon and turned on Megan by posting degrading and abusive comments to her and her myspace friends. The 13 year old, crushed by the comments left by Evans (Lori Drew) then committed suicide.
It was an online crime and no one was releasing any information until Sarah Wells, a person upset by what had transpired, was brave enough to blog about the heinous act and post Lori Drew’s name for the world to see.

You’ll find information about how Lori Drew created an anonymous page to post Sara’s personal information as retaliation for letting the world know what she did. Believe it or not, you’ll also find records that show Lori Drew filed a police report on Megan’s father shortly after the suicide to draw attention away from her act!
Megan hanged herself in October of 2005. Lori Drew was indicted in the deadly myspace hoax this month (May of 2008).
Some people say you should respect the privacy of your child, others believe it is their duty to stay on top events and help protect them from harm.
Know this, the internet is a very dangerous place! Letting your child surf the net unsupervised is no different than dropping your child off in a bad area of town to wonder the streets alone (with all your personal information to boot!)
If your child is on the internet, you had better keep tabs on it!
To monitor the activity of your computer, you can use what is called a keylogger which will record all the activity, including pages visited, times, screen shots and more. Some even have a built in function that will send you a message on your phone when something inappropriate has been accessed.
Determining which keylogger can be very tricky and if you install the wrong one, you’ll be sending your data off to some remote hacker. I like to review the code behind the program and so my recommendation is an open source (everyone can review the code) application.
This is the best free keylogger I know of and it is a must for any parent looking to monitor the activity of their child while they navigate the internet maze.
