Early last week I received an email offering to buy a very high traffic health site of mine, actually, it was more of a threat than it was an offer.
The title of this page is Compition which the writer repeatedly uses in place of competition throughout the email below:
Hello,
I’m interested in the domain [snip], are you interested in selling the entire website?
If yes: How much do you expect to sell if for?
If no: Well say hello to a new competitor/rival.
If the answer is no, I must admit that I think you’re business will go down from that day, I noticed the Yahoo Ads on [snip] and I know they are earning you a couple of hundred dollars each month.
So what do you say m8.
Best Regards,
Morten – I will dominate this market.
Morten obviously has no idea what he’s talking about and I’m guessing I’m his first attempt at buying a site. When I didn’t respond, I received an email late last week with a copy of the first email asking if I had received the original message.
Today, I received this email:
Hello,
I wanted to buy [snip] – Now you just got a compititor.
I have bought and builded the website, so now it’s just a matter of time before I’m stealing all your visitors. If you don’t believe me, well, let’s see..
I’m a SEO expert, Search Engine Optimization Expert.. I know how to rank for highly targeted keywords on google.. And I have outsourced your website, so I have the same keywords and more. Like I told you earlier, I WILL dominate this niche.
I know a lot of things about personal health, so the website is not for just the money, but because it’s my passion, although I declare a war, and this is just one of the things I love about the internet. . . The compitition, and I will love to destroy my compititors..
So good luck m8..
I’m guessing 1-2 months, then your visitors will be 50% of what they were..
Bye Bye..
If you wanna sell after this little war, then give me an offer I cant resist!
Best Regards,
MortenI’ll see ya on the field m8 :)
Obviously playing too many war games and just discovered the term SEO… Two months to compete with a seasoned site averaging 100k uniques per month, right! Amazing what is out there!
This is a prime example of someone trying to scare people into selling their site – should you ever receive such an email, your best bet is not to respond!
Hello,
I’d like to buy an ad on this page.
The ad would be for a website about online game tournaments. We will be providing you with the codes.
I don’t have a huge budget, but I’m sure there is a reasonable price we can arrange.
Please get back to me if interested.
Thanks!
