Bicycle Repair - Diamondback Maravista

I bought a new bike a few days ago from Dick’s Sporting Goods. It’s a Diamondback Maravista and it’s exactly what I’ve been looking for, however, the gears make a little noise like they are not shifting all the way.

I could take it back to Dick’s and I’m positive the staff there would be more than happy to tweak it for me, but I know it’s something I need to be able to do myself. It’s all about tension and over time, it will need to be adjusted again.

I opened the manual to look for instructions and didn’t find anything on gears; however, I did come across this instruction for discovering Standover Height:

“Standover height is the basic element of bike fit. It is the distance from the ground to the top of the bicycle’s frame at the point where your crotch is when straddling the bike. To check for correct standover height, straddle the bike while wearing the kind of shoes in which you’ll be riding, and bounce vigorously on your heels. If your crotch touches the frame, the bike is too big for you.”

Does anyone else see something wrong with those instructions :)

I ended searching Google for information on bicycle repair and ended up finding an awesome site that explains everything there is about bike repair! The site is called Bicycle Tutor and is a must visit for those looking to do it themselves.
