Bald Eagle Facts

Had this picture of the American Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) on my memory card and am just now getting around to posting it.

The eagle was sitting in front of the beach perched on a cinder block. I took the picture with a zoom lens and was very quiet yet the eagle’s keen senses instantly picked up on my movement.

Bald Eagle Facts are that this bird is the US National Emblem and was declared such in 1782 by our founding fathers because of its uniqueness to North America. The image of the bald eagle is a symbol of freedom.

Only through protection laws has this bird been saved from extinction and topped the endangered species list from 1967 to 1995. Bald Eagle Facts show the population as low as 500 in the 60’s and as high as 10,000 in 07.

It truly is a sight to wake up and find one of these magnificent creatures perched on the beach.
