I’ve been bombarded with calls from 405-416-1899 and when you answer, the voice on the other end of the phone line claims to be Google requesting to update your Google 411 business listing. I’ve received automated messages, some giving you the option to talk to a representative and others as follows:
Hello, your Google 411 business listing is expiring. We’ve introduced new tools that will place your business on the first page of Google through our 411 directory and are extending a special offer to you! For one month, we will place your business on the first page free of charge; if you are happy with the traffic, you can relist and continue to use our tools for a special rate.
We’re sorry we missed you, and will call back at another time. Don’t miss this opportunity as it won’t last long.
It’s a scam! I’ve been getting calls from 405-416-1899 since October 2011 and when you challenge the voice on the other end of the phone (after pressing 1), you’ll receive rude treatment and a prompt disconnect.
Note: The automated message also gives you the ability to press 9 to be placed on their “Do Not Call List” but in doing so, the calls have increased!
Google had a free 411 service that was discontinued in November of 2010. Google places is another service for businesses which lists your offerings and location, however; Google does NOT call people to solicit business like this and certainly doesn’t promise first page results!
If you receive a call from this number, or any number claiming to offer such services, tell them you’ll call them back – you’ll find the number won’t answer or is “out of service”. You’re best bet, Don’t press anything, don’t answer and avoid calls from (405) 416-1899.
