2010 World cup in South Africa FIFA Promotion team

When I received this as a word document in a phishing email, I had to share. Take a look at the graphics – the scammers that sent this email are trying to look official by showing pictures of people who won their lottery; they are so incompetent that they actually used a picture from a Michigan Lotto Winner!

To top it all off, they claim to be using a new ‘java-based’ software package to generate results, as if that matters (perhaps their DOS based package gave away too many funds : ).

Here is the scam below:

I like messing with them, Here is my reply.

    Thank you!

That is GREAT news to hear. My wife is currently traveling through South Africa
with her collages from the Red Cross Society, I think they are currently in or near Beaufort West.

My wife and I are financially secure. I inherited 16.3 million from my late aunt Esther
    last summer.

So I am going to give my wife the biggest birthday gift ever. I would like to donate the
entire amount of my winnings (minus taxes and any processing fees) to the following
    organization.

The South African Red Cross Society
    Standard Redcross Donations
    Standard Bank – Constantia
    Account Number: 071760571
    Branch Code: 025309
    SWIFT Code: SBZAZAJJ

I will make the following arraignments with Standard Bank – Constantia. I will send them a
signed release of my interest in the winnings. I will also send a certified and signed transfer of
funds form. They will be arraigning the transfer of funds with your claims department early
    next week.

My contact Nelson Botha at Standard Bank – Constantia is taking care of all arraignments.
Here is his phone number 0860101341.

I would like to thank you Mr. Daniel Jomoh.

Together we can make a difference in the world.

Had a similar email today, was nearly fooled only because this sum of money would assist me, family, friends and those in desperate need.
My contact person was Mr. John Modise I have sent an email to ‘andre@gamblingcontrol.org’;'ccchair@gcb.nv.gov’;’shenseljar@state.pa.us’ one of whom is chief exec for International Association of Gaming Regulators (IAGR), asking if this is a scam (no reply as yet). I may not be a millionairess when I wake in the morning but after reading the above comments neither will I be the idiot who believed this really was true (shame it isn’t though hey!), thank goodness for the internet and the opportinuty/ability to research; I will however sleep well now tonight.

  8. Rodney Bryant on February 16th, 2009 2:20 pm

Just received similar e-mail today. Contact person is Mike Zuma. Looks like they might be attempting to legitimize the appearance of the validity because I won 2nd place ($820,000.00 instead of 1st Place ($1,000,000.00). Funny thing is I have never entered any contests by email. I really feel sorry for the ignorant and greedy people who fall for these type scams.

  12. algrine on March 27th, 2009 4:25 pm

wt this rubbish is.isnt any 1 of real fifa team to take notice of such people making there name ruin.really a stupid 1……….

  20. The dude on June 1st, 2009 2:56 pm

Good ol Mr. Paul Morgan almost threw me for a loop. He actually called me sounding like a genuine person. When I heard that you would have to pay $550 to get a $2,000,000.00 check sent by DHL (which I knew was a lot due to me receiving previous goods shipped transglobal via Ebay), I was a little bit skeptical. When I heard that it would be $1550 to have it wired to a bank account, I was done. There is no way that you have to spend that amount of money to get a prize claim. If so, take it out of my winnings. Nice try guys, but no dice.

  21. SHARADA KUMAR on June 3rd, 2009 11:35 pm

I also receive this kind of email earlier this Feb. I wonder were they faking or were genuine people . they had ask me the details which I had mailed to them. I called one Leslie Thomas on her Number but got no reply accept that of an answering machine . well they are just ruining the name of The FIFA football league.
